Nowhere I'd Rather Be, This Is Home To Me

i guess i'm really proud to be a Singaporean whenever National Day rolls around at this time of the year (:

this august, i'm ever excited about the coming 43rd birthday of our nation and i don't know why. this nostalgia i have reminiscing the days in primary school when i would reach the school's gates early in the morning and "Home" by Kit Chan would be playing around the school grounds on the PA system until classes started. all of us knew the lyrics of both the English and Mandarin versions by heart and we would all sing along.

all that lost unabashed-ness of being young (:

the other day, i was spending another day at home free from work and school. looking out the kitchen window after my grandaunt has hung the laundry out on yet another sunny day; the high rises of the HDB flats around my neighbourhood, the bamboo poles draped with laundry that stick out of almost every flat was ubiquitous but yet so unique to all the nieghbourhoods on our little red dot (:

i'm cherishing every year's National Day more, i guess it's all part of growing up and realising that sometimes, i get so caught up in everyday routines and catching up with rising living costs, that we seem to take for granted many things, such as the peace and greenery that surrounds my home country (: this, i'm truly grateful for.

not having tickets to catch all the live action happening at Marina Bay for the second time around so far is probably my greatest loss this year since i would love to watch the National Day Parade live ): but i'll be contented watching it at home with my family! and i'll be working on yet another public holiday where an extra bonus/hour are as uncommon to come by as a National Day in a year. but returning home for a National Day dinner, together with all the excitement of the Beijing Olympics Games, i'll be real excited just to see all the fireworks!
