The "Waiters Are Not Dogs" Welfare Among Other Things The "Waiters Are Not Dogs" Welfare Among Other Things it's been a while since i've blogged! and one without pictures as well ): but promise, more to come! it used to be a release in the past but then, since i got busy with the new job, i hardly find inspiration to blog, or if, to blog about. but, i'm back! wee. sudden urge to update or no one'll ever find out if i'm dead or alive! there's just so many things to talk about! (: it's about close to a month since i've starting the new job: waitressing. and i've also received my first payout from the month of March! (: MOOLAH to go shopping with, even though it isn't alot to start with. 10 days of work in March and i think i've been working my ass off in full 10-hour shifts last week since April started. after that, 5-hour shifts feel like chicken feet. haha :D everyone at the restaurant has been really nice, although i think, in a working environment where it requires you to be on your toes at all times (literally!), you have to operate like a radar and be so observant that it becomes a chore to notice, for me at least; it's kinda hard to strike up any relationship that's gonna be lasting somehow. we have to host customers to their seat, take their orders, pour water, serve food, ask if they need anything, attend to their complaints, clear the tables, serve desserts, send their bills, cash or credit, clear and set all over again. and i just learnt cashiering last week! although it thought it was a mundane task to be doing ALL of that for 10 hours straight with a half hour break in between 5-hour shifts, it actually wasn't! half the time, i'm stretching my legs cause my ankles hurt. so i survived 10-hour shifts, two days last week. friday was murder. pure murder. because it's probably the busiest day in the week when it's considered the "weekend" and everyone, after school, after work or just shopping around, will spend good money at a restaurant for dinner! jodie gave me a surprise and came by with alecia to say "hello" in the afternoon ((: THANK YOU! and then, by mere coincidence, i saw 2 groups of ex-schoolmates, one in the afternoon, one in the evening, of which both groups, did not recognise me. just as well, haha :D i wouldn't know how to acknowledge that i was the girl they knew 4 years back in school. because there was a half-hour break, i met my mom who had already knocked off work, for dinner (: mos burger at shaw. and then, i ran into yixian which was actually seated next to the table my mom reserved for our quick dinner. i don't know if it was embarassing to see him and his friends there because i was in the middle of my shift and he asked where i worked. i swallowed my burger because there was only 20 minutes left by the time the food arrived and ran up to the restaurant to be 2 minutes late ): dang! and in the dinner crowd, someone else familiar came into the restuarant to have dinner and he asked for me to take his order. turns out it was shingo, already graduated and in formal wear! we both remembered each other from Freshmen Orientation when we were both Camp Leaders (: and he was so suprised cause he hadn't seen anyone else around since he left school. and then Chengcong came in with his girlfriend as well and recognised me when i took his order for dessert. he kept smiling and his grlfriend got suspicious :D haha. and we closed later on fridays and saturdays, at 11, then i got home and feel straight asleep. tips left by generous diners are then split among attending personnel who weren't late for the shifts, dubbed the "Waiters Are Not Dogs" Welfare ((: haha. then again, there are always customers who can be demanding and try to throw their weight around because they are can afford to eat at a restaurant instead of a hawker centre. and i'm learning how to deal and not burst a blood vessel when faced with these circumstances. so, what an update! i have to run soon, or i'll be late for tonight's shift (: on another note, it's a countdown to 1 more week til school reopens for me ): BUT 6 more days to WE WILL ROCK YOU! yayness!
